The captain of Zimbabwe Warriors, Marvelous Nakamba, has been ruled out of the FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Benin and the Super Eagles of Nigeria due to injury, according to reports.
The 31-year-old Luton Town midfielder has already been replaced by Ngezi Platinum Stars’ defensive midfielder, Richard Hachiro.
Nakamba’s absence is a significant blow to Zimbabwe’s aspirations in these crucial qualifiers.
Zimbabwe will resume their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign against Benin at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, South Africa, on Thursday. They will then travel to Uyo to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles on March 25.
The Warriors are aiming to revive their 2026 FIFA World Cup hopes, having secured just two points from four matches in Group C, which includes South Africa, Rwanda, Lesotho, Benin and Nigeria.
Coach Michael Nees, who was appointed in August last year and led Zimbabwe to the AFCON finals, will oversee the team during these qualifiers.
