FIFA Executive Committee on Tuesday started an emergency meeting dealing with the latest upheaval at football’s ruling body with the suspension of President Joseph Blatter and UEFA boss, Michel Platini.
The meeting was chaired by Senior Vice-President Issa Hayatou in the absence of Blatter, and FIFA Vice President Platini, the executives were dealing with the latest developments.
Report says the latest development centres on a “disloyal payment’’ of two million Swiss francs (2.1 million dollars) Blatter paid to Platini in 2011 and which is probed by Swiss prosecutors.
They would also discuss whether the extra-ordinary congress would meet to elect a new president as planned on Feb. 26 or will be postponed.
The executives added that the candidates have to submit their bid by October 26 and face an integrity check, which could undermine Platini’s ambitions.
They would also look into a call from the ethics committee to make more details of suspension public, and would hear a progress report from the reform commission.
Report says although not on the agenda but likely to be discussed will be allegations by magazine Der Spiegel that the German bid committee for the 2006 World Cup had a slush fund from which it bribed FIFA executive to secure their vote.
