FIFA: Blatter’s appeal to be heard Aug 25

Former FIFA President Joseph Blatter’s appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has been fixed for August 25, a report said on Friday.

It said that Blatter has gone to CAS in Lausanne, Switzerland, following a six-year football ban by FIFA’s ethics committee.

The report added that Blatter and former UEFA president Michel Platini were banned in connection with a disloyal payment of some $2 million.

It added that Platini received from Blatter in 2011 for FIFA work done as a FIFA presidential adviser a decade earlier,’’ it noted.

However, Platini also took his case to CAS, which in May reduced his ban from six to four years.

He then announced he was stepping down as UEFA president.

Meanwhile, the original FIFA ethics committee ban for Platini and Blatter was eight years but has been reduced by two years for both on appeal at FIFA.
