Fayose denies alleged suspension, says it is a mere rumour

ayodele_fayoseA former governor of Ekiti, Mr Ayo Fayose, has described his alleged suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as “a rumour’’.

Fayose spoke with newsmen shortly after he met with the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamaga Tukur, in Abuja on Thursday.

He said that he only read of the purported suspension in the dailies like every other Nigerian, noting that he had not been officially notified.

The former governor said he would remain focus on his ambition and on the part of truth, adding that nobody could stop him from re-contesting the Ekiti governorship seat.

Fayose said those linking him with the violent destruction of properties in Ekiti were those who were out to dent his image and give him a bad name.

He said the way out of the crisis rocking the party in Ekiti was for its leadership to ensure transparent primaries.

He further said that he had handed over documents to the national chairman on the recent crisis in the party in Ekiti.

“As one of the aspirants and a force to be reckoned with in the Ekiti PDP, I will not accept any other process than transparent party primaries.

“I am very much aware that there were plots by some PDP aspirants in the state to impose a governorship candidate on the people in the guise of consensus arrangement.

“It will be wrong to impose a consensus candidate on the people after collecting a non-refundable fee of N2 million from each aspirant for expression of interest,” he said.

Fayose alleged that the group involved in the arrangement was working with some members of the state executive committee of the party.

He thanked the media for their balanced report of events, and urged them to continue to hold political leaders accountable while in and out of office.

“I say this because some media organisations rather than put the truth before the public hide it and say only what the authorities want them to say.

“This will not take democracy anywhere.’’ Fayose said.
