Family members of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, on Thursday, held prayers to mark the sixth year remembrance for the repose of his soul.
Yar’Adua died in office on May 5, 2010.
He was sworn-in as former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s successor on May 29, 2007.
Some selected Islamic clerics were invited to pray for the late President in his family house in Katsina.
The clerics prayed to God to grant him eternal rest and the family the fortitude to continue to bear the irreparable loss.
The clerics also prayed for eternal rest for his father, late Alhaji Musa Yar’Adua, the first Republic Minister of Lagos Affairs and the former Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters, Maj.-Gen. Shehu Musa Yar’Adua.
Spokesman of the family, Alhaji Zubairu Gafai, said the prayers were held for Allah to shower His mercies “on the souls of the departed great men”.

He expressed regret that all political associates of the late President had deserted the family.

Gafai appealed to the people of the state to continue to pray for the soul of the late president.

He, however, claimed Umaru’s elder brother, Major-General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, who died on December 8, 1997 and sacrificed his life for democracy to flourish, had been forgotten by Nigerians and his political associates.
