“There are a lot of good things being done by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration. And though much more will still have to be done, I am coming in to lend my support to ongoing efforts to keep Nigeria on the path of peace, progress and genuine development”.
With above words, former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, on Thursday, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mimiko, who governed Ondo State from 2009 to 2016, formally joined APC at the party’s Ward 7 secretariat in Ondo West Local Government Area.
He had resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in April.
The former governor, popularly known as Iroko, said he joined the ruling party to support the developmental agenda of Tinubu, praising the president for introducing initiatives such as the students’ loan scheme and ongoing efforts to decentralise policing in the country.
“The NELFUND initiative to democratise access to education is another commendable effort of Mr. President, which must be applauded, and for an avowed supporter of state police like myself, the current effort to decentralise policing as being pursued is another reason I am happy to be part of the current effort under Mr. President”.

At the event, state APC Chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, described the former governor as a progressive politician.
“Mimiko is a progressive all through, and his coming into the APC is like a homecoming. President Tinubu’s policies and programmes are progressive in nature and already yielding positive results for Nigerians”.
Present at the defection were members of the Ondo State Government Exco, lawmakers, party leaders and supporters of the former
governor.
