Super Eagles stand-in captain, Vincent Enyeama, has declared that Nigeria will beat hosts Namibia in Wednesday night World Cup qualifiers to show doubter that the Eagles are back to the top in African football.
Enyeam said: “It’s important we win this game. We want to win every game we go into because we want to prove we are back on top.”
The Super Eagles are top of Group F of the 2014 World Cup qualifying group with eight points and another away win in Namibia Wednesday night would see them consolidate their leadership.
The Brave Warriors build-up has been upset by the sudden resignation of Swedish coach Roger Palmgren, but Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has maintained they will have to expect stiff opposition from their hosts.
“They were already prepared even before the coach resigned and as such we just have to play and be ready for whatever they will bring,” said the Chelsea-bound Omeruo.
Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has watched the tape of the goalless draw Namibia recorded in Malawi last week and he disclosed that he expects them to stick to a 4-4-2 formation even though assistant coach Ricardo Manetti has replaced Palmgren.
Kick-off time is 8pm Nigeria time and it is expected to be cold, but Italy-based midfielder Ogenyi Onazi said the Eagles will cope with the chill as they are used to such weather condition at their various bases in Europe. The cold weather will not affect us as most of us are used to playing under such conditions at our clubs in Europe. We are positive and want all three points.”
