Enugu State Government has inaugurated a six-man Enugu State Water Corporation Board, assuring residents of the state government’s commitment to ensuring adequate water supply in the South-East state.
Inaugurating the board on Thursday in Government House, Enugu, the Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, said that the state government is targeting 40,000 cubic meters of water for sustainable supply of water in the state in short term.
” Presently, the state can boast of over 18,000 cubic meters of water and our target is to ensure that we produce about 40,000 cubic meter of water, ” she said.
According to her, the current administration has injected N100, 000,000 to increase the output of water supply to Enugu metropolis.
Enugu State Government recently awarded contracts worth over N170,000,000 for the maintenance of water facilities at Ajali and Oji River water plants to boast supply.
She recalled that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, while receiving a humanitarian arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days Saints, donated the sum of N5,000,000 to 10 communities in the state.
The Deputy Governor said that the donation represented N500,000 each as their counterpart funding for water project.
” In keeping fate with the promises of the current administration, Governor Ugwuanyi recently awarded N600,000,000 contract to FordMarx Nigeria Limited for rehabilitation of 9th Mile Water Scheme.
” The project, when completed, would ensure adequate supply of potable water from Oji River, Ajali and Iva Valley water schemes to Enugu metropolis.
” Plans are under way for the new Okwojo-Ngwo boreholes augmentation in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu metropolis, ” Ezeilo said.
Finally, she inaugurated the board and urged them to work towards the achievement of the state government target
In an acceptance speech, the chairman of the board, Innocent Diyoke, on behalf of other members, expressed gratitude to the state government.
He promised that the board will execute their duties to the best of their abilities.
” I promised that we will do our best to meet the expectations of the state government and the entire people of Enugu State.”, Diyoke said.
He thanked the state government for creating an enabling environment and resources to ensure success of the project.
Members of the board are Engr. Innocent Diyoke – Chairman, Engr Sam Ugwuanyi , member, Engr. Chibuzo Luke Aka, Engr(Mrs) Chinwe Mbah, Engr. Eugene Okwu and Mrs Nonso Nnamani, members.
