The soccer academy owned by former Nigeria international, Emmanuel Amunike, have won the title of the 2013 edition of the IBER CUP, an international youth tournament held in Estoril, Portugal from July 1-6.
The academy registered for the U-16 level of the competition and was drawn in group H that had other teams like Ullern IF (Norway), ASL Robertsau (France) and Club Brexo-Lema SD (Spain).
Emmanuel amunike academy won all three group games defeating ASL Robertsau (France) 3.0, Ullern IF (Norway) 4.0 Club Brexo-Lema SD (Spain) 7.0
Second round saw the team defeating C. Marista Carcavelos (Portugal) 3.0, in the quarter the academy defeated deportivo lacoruna Spain 2-3 on penalties and also interesting that same day defeated another Spanish side Sevilla 4-5 on penalties.
In the final the team played against the defending champions Chivas Guadalajara Mexico who had earlier in the semi final defeated another African side Lusaka academy Zambia by 2.0
The final was played at the Estadio Estoril the home ground of a Portuguese premier division side FC Estoril. The game was decided on penalties after a goalless situation and we won by 4-2.
The Nigerian ambassador to Portugal Her excellency Mrs Bristol led the Nigerian community that came to cheer the team to victory afterwards she hosted the team in her resident.
The youngest member of the squad Samuel Chukwueze emerged top scorer with 12 goals while Kelechi Nwakali was adjudged the MVP for the U-16 category.
