Imam Aliyu Zakariyya of the Friday Mosque GRA Bauchi has urged Muslims to sincerel repent from their sins and also be generous to the needy to gain the favors of Allah.

Zakariyya gave the advice in an interview on Tuesday in Bauchi.

”To overcome the period of unusually dry weather caused by low rainfall and high temperatures, Muslims need to pray, repent and  be generous to the needy in the state.

“It is said that when Mūsā ʿalayhi al-Salām was wandering in the desert with Banī Isrā’īl, they were affected by a severe drought.

“They raised their hands to the heavens, asking Allāh to shower them with rain.

“To the immense surprise of alayhi al-Salām and all those around him, the few scattered clouds in the sky vanished, the heat became severe and the drought actually worsened.

”It was then revealed to alayhi al-Salām that among the tribe, there was a sinner who had defied Allāh for over forty years of his life. Allāh told His prophet: Let him remove himself from the congregation, and only then shall I shower you all with rain.”

”So alayhi al-Salām turned to the masses and informed them of what he had heard.

NAN reports that hundreds of Muslim faithful in Bauchi  on Tuesday congregated at the Eid grounds to pray for rains after prolonged drought spell.

The prayers known in Islam as Salat Al-Istiqa are specifically meant to ask Allah for mercy of rains to enable people, plants and animals to bloom again after a long suffering without rains.

The prayers were carried out in seven different Eid grounds in Bauchi metropolis.

Sheik Mustapha urged all Muslims to partake in the prayers  to deliver  the state and the rest of affected areas in the country from drought.

He indicated that in Islam, drought is caused by too much sin, adding that all it takes is repentance for us to be at par with God again and for Him to bless us. Let us pray for rain upon the state
