As Nigerians are finding it hard to get tinted glass and siren permits through the ‘Police Specialised Services Automation Project’ because of technical issues with the system, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) vowed on Tuesday that it would begin enforcement on October 2.
The technical glitch happens mostly during the capturing of photograph session as unexpected malfunction of the software in the device prevents it from working optimally.
Some applicants have been on this for months.
Despite these technical glitches, the Police Command in Bauchi State says it will begin enforcement of tinted glass and siren regulations on October 2.

Ahmed Wakil, the spokesman of the command, on Tuesday in Bauchi, said the exercise was in line with the federal directives aimed at ensuring compliance, promoting road safety and protection of citizens’ rights.

He said police personnel would conduct the operation with utmost professionalism, civility and respect for human rights as well as compliance to the guidelines on the use of sirens, strobe lights and vehicle plate number.

“Motorists are advised to carry essential vehicle documents such as drivers’ licences, proof of ownership and valid insurance during stop-and-search operations,” he said.

While urging drivers to ensure that tinted glasses meet legal transparency standards, removed unauthorised sirens and flash lights, he said number plates must remain clear, legible and securely attached at all times, warning that any form of tampering including bending, covering, tinting or flipping would not be tolerated.

According to Wakil, the clampdown is designed to curb road intimidation, eliminate illegal sirens and enhance deterrence thereby improving public safety.

He said that Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers had been mobilised to closely supervise field operations, to ensure due process, accountability, and called for voluntary compliance.

The command, he said, encouraged members of the public to report misconduct or rights violations to the Police Complaint Response Unit via cellphone number: 0815 184 9417.
