Lawyer and human rights activist, Dele Farotimi, was on Monday arraigned in handcuffs in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
He was brought before Justice Babs Olaniyi Kuewumi of a Federal High Court.
Farotimi, who was arraigned last week in a Magistrate’s Court over alleged defamation, is scheduled to appear before the Magistrate on Tuesday.
He was accused of spreading false information against a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Afe Babalola, in a published book.
However, the Federal High Court granted Farotimi, who wore a pink shirt, N50 million bail with one surety.
The judge asked the surety to provide evidence of two years’ tax clearance and a letter of consent from the bank.
He subsequently adjourned trial to January 29, 2025.
There were heavily-armed policemen inside and outside the court premises.
Last week, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, filed a 12-count charge bordering on cybercrime, against Farotimi.
