Airtel Nigeria, a telecommunication company, on Monday, announced an innovative partnership with Google to transform home entertainment across Nigeria.

Airtel Nigeria said this in a statement signed by Mr Femi Adeniran, its Director, Corporate Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Chief Commercial Officer, Airtel Nigeria, Femi Oshinlaja, said that the partnership integrated YouTube, the world’s largest video platform, into the Airtel Smart Router.

He said that this integration was to deliver seamless internet connection and entertainment experiences for subscribers across the country.

Oshinlaja said that the partnership was significant towards transforming digital entertainment in Nigerian homes.

“At Airtel, our goal to bridge the digital gap includes the provision of affordable entertainment content.

“Through this partnership with Google, we will continue to revolutionise the entertainment space.

“The Airtel Smart Router offers a complete experience, delivering internet services and easy access to world-class entertainment through YouTube,” he said.

Oshinlaja noted that the Airtel Smart Router further fulfilled its promise as a two-in-one device, acting as an internet router while also converting analogue television sets into smart TVs to enable YouTube viewing on any type of television.

The Director, Corporate Communications and CSR, Airtel Nigeria, Femi Adeniran, stated that the integration of YouTube on the Airtel Smart Router offered an unmatched simplification of the customer experience.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to creating affordable and innovative solutions that enhance the digital lifestyle of our customers,” he added.

Adeniran emphasised that the Airtel Smart Router retailed for N25,000 and arrived with unlimited data for 30 days.

He said that the router simplified the streaming of movies, football matches, cartoons, music, and other forms of audio-visual entertainment for the entire family.

Mr Olumide Balogun, West Africa Director, Google, said that YouTube had always been about connecting people with the content they love.

“With this partnership, we are making it easier for more Nigerians to access their favourite videos right from their TVs.

“We are also enabling even more homes to benefit from the wealth of knowledge and entertainment that YouTube offers,” he said.

Balogun noted that the partnership would also enable more Nigerians to discover new content, connect with their favourite creators, and enjoy a seamless viewing experience on their TV sets.

The Director, EMEA Product Partnerships, YouTube, Mahesh Bhalerao, reiterated that YouTube was the stage where culture came to life and where everyone could find their voice and connect with what matters most to them.

“This collaboration with Airtel underscores our commitment to bringing high-quality, on-demand content to more homes, while empowering Nigerian audiences to explore, learn, and enjoy the diversity of experiences YouTube offers,” he said.
