Dasaolu disappointed not to make 100m relay team

james_dasaoluJames Dasaolu was disappointed not to be part of the Great Britain 100m relay team that ultimately failed to win a medal at the World Championships on Sunday.

Dasaolu, the fastest Brit this year, was expected to anchor the team but his lack of practice in the lead up to the championships due to injury, saw Dwain Chambers preferred ahead of him.

Chambers thought he had anchored the team to bronze only to suffer heartbreak when the team were disqualified because of the changeover between Sutton’s Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and Croydon’s James Ellington took place outside of the zone.

Although Dasaolu, who came eighth in the 100m final, had wanted to be involved, he is now looking forward to running more good times for the rest of the season – including the Diamond League in Zurich on August 29.

“I’m disappointed not to be selected,” he wrote on his official website.

“I can understand the decision as I rested up following my Anniversary Games withdrawal before the World Championships to prepare for my 100m race.

“Resting meant that I was unable to practice at the holding camp with the team, so I couldn’t be included in the final quartet, but overall I am disappointed not to be in the four.

“I would have loved to have been running with them.

“I have to move on and look to the rest of the season. It has been a great year so far and there is still more to come from me.

“The support I have had from the British public has been incredible. I can’t thank them enough.”
