Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo has commended President Goodluck Jonathan’s spirit of statesmanship for being the first to congratulate the President-Elect, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari.
The Vice President gave this commendation in an interview after casting his votes on the Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections at his polling Unit 11 Police College Gate in Kabala Constain/Doki Ward, Kaduna.
“We always believe in the rule of law and whether Muslim or Christian, there is always a person that will emerge a winner. So, whatever the outcome, Mr. President has set a very good example by being the first to congratulate the President-elect and I have also did the same,” he said
The Vice President added that by his action, the President has set a standard in the politics of Nigeria in particular and Africa in general while expressing his belief that the standard would be maintained.
He, however, called on the cooperation of all Nigerians with the current administration as administrations continue to change but Nigeria remains.
“All of us can contribute to the development of our dear country whether inside or outside of government. So, the outcome should be taken in good faith to make Nigeria move forward,” he added
Sambo also noted the low turnout of voters as compared to the last election and urged them to come out and exercise their voting rights.
The Vice President, who was in company of his of wife, Amina Namadi Sambo, had earlier in the day done his accreditation at the unit where he called on the electorate to conduct themselves peacefully in order to ensure a hitch-free election.
