CBN links cashless policy to increased electronic banking risks

Central Bank of Nigeria

The National Industrial Court, Abuja, on Tuesday heard that a former official of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Buba Wulangs, allegedly presented a forged degree certificate to secure a job with the apex bank.
The court heard the testimony, when the claimant’s counsel, Mr S.Yenge, cross examined Mrs Oluronti Fabiyi, a staff verification officer at CBN, who was employed on November 2, 2013.
She told the court that the degree certificate the claimant presented to CBN was investigated and was found to be a forged certificate.
When asked if the claimant was invited to appear before any panel or committee before he was dismissed, she said the claimant was not invited to any panel.
On whether the CBN complied with the staff manual before the dismissal of the claimant, she said ” yes the CBN complied with the manual.”
Wulangs is challenging the purported termination of his appointment by the CBN through a letter issued to him in February, 2013.
The claimant, who worked as a junior staff at the CBN, is asking the court to order the CBN to reinstate him because his appointment was unlawfully terminated.
Earlier, the claimant, when cross-examined by the respondent’s counsel, Mr Solo Akuma (SAN), told the court that he was “surprised ” when the respondent issued him a query alleging that his degree certificate was forged.
He told the court that he responded to the query, and was later issued a dismissal letter by the respondent.
When told by Akuma that he presented the certificate with the intention to be upgraded, Wulangs said that he never intended to nor applied for any upgrade.
The judge, Justice Edith Agbakoba, after listening to submissions by counsel, fixed June 27 for adoption of final written addresses.
