Bomb attack: IGP approves post-humous promotions for deceased officers

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Solomon Arase, on Tuesday, approved post-humous promotion for three police officers killed by suicide bombers in Damaturu, Yobe State.
This is contained in a statement in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu.
Arase saluted the courage and gallantry displaced by officers of the command in containing insurgency in the state.
He said that in spite of the imminent challenges, the officers exhibited high sense of patriotism and dedication to duty.
The IGP, who regretted the death of the officers in the unfortunate incident, observed that if not for the sacrifice and professionalism of the deceased, the terrorists would have detonated the explosives in a high profile target.
He ordered the medical department of the force to foot the medical bill of the injured officer.
“In addition, four children each of the deceased will be offered scholarship up to secondary school level, while the families will be afforded priority in the budding Police Housing Scheme,“ he said.
He said similar gesture would be extended to other officers who paid the “supreme sacrifice” in the course of fighting insurgency.
It would be recalled that three policemen were killed at a check point in Damaturu by suicide bombers on July 20.
