The National Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, on Monday expressed confidence that APGA would win Imo in 2015 general elections.
Umeh, who made the declaration in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, said that “we are very eager to rebuild the party in Imo against 2015.
This, he attributed, to the sudden defection of Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo to the just registered All Progressive Congress (APC).
He said that the party’s National Executive Committee unanimously resolved to dissolve the Imo executive committee of the party because it was the only available option now.
The chairman said the party would not leave anything undone until its aim was achieved in Imo and other places.
“Imo has been APGA state since 2003, we won and it was stolen away from us and we could not retrieve it at the tribunal.
“In 2007, the party won the governorship election, but it was stopped at the point of announcing the results, we went to the tribunal but unfortunately we did not succeed.
“In 2011, we won but it was also a difficult fight because we have to go through supplementary elections,’’ Umeh said.
Umeh expressed regrets that the party had done a lot for Okorocha to ensure his victory, but he had decided to defect to APC.
He, however, reminded Okorocha that the government he was taking to APC belonged to APGA, entrusted to him by the people of Imo.
“There is no way any political party can keep quiet and tolerate such high level of indiscipline from its members.
“We made it clear long time ago that APGA is not in a merger with any political party or association in the country,” he said.
Umeh said the party would uphold the suspension of Okorocha until he apologise to APGA.
