paul_unongoA former Minister of Power and Steel, Mr Paul Unongo, said that the registration of APC would pose a debacle to the continued dominance of the PDP in the country.

Unongo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Makurdi that the new party posed a real threat to the ruling party judging by its spread across the country.

He said the fusion of the three parties showed that it had majority spread in the South West, North West and North Central.

Unongo, who is a chieftain of the PDP in Benue, said the emergence of APC was a good omen for the survival of democracy in the country.

He called on the ruling party to address all cases of injustice by ensuring fair play, if it was still desired to win elections in the country.

Unongo condemned those who were fanning the embers of hatred and social discord in the country, adding that it was a negation of the principles upon which the Nigerian state was founded.

He said that the Tiv people gave President Goodluck Jonathan a block vote, and urged the president a appoint a Tiv cabinet minister.

He advised the old men who have the ambition to contest for senatorial seat in his district to desist from doing that.

“I am too old to be involved in the type of politics that is being practised here in Benue.

“I am too old to be running about in the name of elections at 78. When I was young, I get worried when I see old people competing with the young ones for offices.

“The youths should be given the chance to make mistakes, so that they can improve themselves,” Unongo said.
