The All Progressives Congress (APC) has adjusted its timetable for the 2027 general elections, rescheduling its presidential primary to May 23.
The update was announced in Abuja after the party’s 186th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, according to Duro Meseko.
Meseko explained that the presidential primary, initially planned for May 15, will now take place on Saturday, May 23, alongside other revised election activities.
He stated that the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms remains open to all eligible party members nationwide, dismissing claims of restrictions.
According to him, the changes were made to align with provisions of the Electoral Act, the party constitution, and guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Meseko added that the revised schedule has already been formally communicated to INEC in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Under the updated timetable, the sale of nomination forms will run from April 25 to May 2, while submission deadlines have been fixed for May 4.
Screening of aspirants across all levels—from state assemblies to presidential hopefuls—will take place between May 6 and May 9.
The presidential screening exercise is scheduled for May 9, with the publication of screening results expected on May 11.
The party also outlined a staggered schedule for its primaries, covering legislative, governorship, senatorial, and presidential contests on different dates.
Meseko noted that the APC will adopt both direct and consensus primary methods, depending on prevailing circumstances.
He emphasized that consensus arrangements must involve agreement among aspirants and key stakeholders, failing which the party will revert to direct primaries.
State chapters have been given the authority to determine the most suitable mode of primary elections within their jurisdictions.
In Zamfara State, internal party congresses are already scheduled, beginning with ward-level exercises on April 30, followed by local government and state congresses.
Meseko confirmed that all congress activities, including appeals, are expected to be concluded by May 3.
He also assured party members that the updated national membership register, including newly registered members, has been submitted to INEC.
According to him, the APC has completed all necessary administrative processes and is fully prepared for its 2027 primary elections.
