Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) staged a protest on Friday in Badagry Constituency 2, calling for a review of the Lagos State House of Assembly primary election results.
Protesters carried placards with messages such as “Respect the will of the people”, “3014 votes can’t be ignored”, and “Setonji David is our choice”, emphasizing their demand for a transparent collation process.
Speaking to newsmen, Mr. Akindele Ogunlana, Director-General of the Setonji David Campaign Organisation, alleged that the primary results were manipulated during collation. He stated that Setonji David won the primary with 3,014 votes, but the candidate declared winner reportedly came third.
“The results from the five wards show that Setonji David won. However, at the collation centre, our agents were denied entry by security personnel, and later, fictitious results were announced,” Ogunlana said. He urged President Bola Tinubu, State Party Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and local APC leaders to restore the mandate to the rightful winner.
Also speaking, Mr. Kiki Sewanu, a youth leader in Badagry, condemned the primary outcome, calling it a mockery of democracy. He urged party leaders to correct the result and ensure the declared winner reflects voters’ choice.
Mr. Sedegla Pot-Balogun, another APC leader, echoed concerns, stressing that unresolved grievances could undermine party cohesion ahead of the 2027 general election. He called on leadership to uphold fairness and democratic principles.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that protesters, despite heavy rain, marched to the residence of Chief Moses Ogunbiyi, APC Apex Leader in Badagry Local Government.
Addressing the crowd, Ogunbiyi commended the peaceful conduct of the members but cautioned against divisive actions. “The APC leadership is aware of the grievances and is working to resolve the matter amicably. I urge you to exercise patience,” he said, urging loyalty and respect for the party’s final decision.
