Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu, Lagos State, have called on party members to maintain unity and support for the party after Senator Mukhail Abiru was officially affirmed as the APC’s candidate for the Lagos East Senatorial District.

The affirmation took place during the APC senatorial primary in Ikorodu, which saw a large turnout of party members. Chief Abiodun Ogunleye, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), described the APC as a disciplined and democratic party. He encouraged eligible voters to register for Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Your PVC is your weapon. Ensure everyone around you who hasn’t registered gets theirs so they can vote during the general elections,” Ogunleye said, urging party members to continue supporting progressive leadership in Ikorodu.

The immediate past Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Mr. Wasiu Adesina, highlighted that the high voter turnout reflected confidence in Abiru’s leadership and performance. Other party leaders, including Dr. Nurudeen Agbaje and Mr. Kaoli Olusanya, praised the peaceful and transparent conduct of the primary exercise.

Senator Mukhail Abiru thanked party leaders and members for their support, emphasizing that the affirmation demonstrated widespread confidence in his stewardship. He also commended President Bola Tinubu for providing leadership that enabled several development projects and programmes in the district.

“While some may be dissatisfied with the outcome, the process was fair, credible, and conducted in line with due process,” Abiru said. He urged APC members to remain united and continue supporting the party at all levels, including upcoming presidential and governorship elections.

Mr. Jimoh Tijani, APC Chairman in Ikorodu Local Government,  thanked party members for backing Abiru and urged them to participate actively in the State House of Assembly primaries scheduled for May 20.
