A group of 176 retired Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) comptrollers has filed a lawsuit against the Minister of Interior and other relevant agencies, alleging failure to provide their statutory retirement entitlements.
The ex-officials, led by Abalaka-Betty Ajuma, filed the case at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), with the suit marked NICN/ABJ/146/2026. Their lawyer, Maroof Giwa, named the Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, NIS Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Board (CDCFIS), CDCFIS leadership, and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, SAN as co-defendants.
The retirees claim that under the “Unified and Reviewed Conditions of Service for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Fire, Nigeria Immigration and Nigeria Prisons Services, 2015”, they are entitled to an official car and the services of five domestic staff upon retirement at the rank of Comptroller of Immigration.
Despite fulfilling all eligibility requirements, the retirees allege that these entitlements have not been provided. They also stated that prior reminders and pre-action notices sent to the defendants have gone unheeded.
The retirees are seeking court declarations that the failure to provide these benefits is unlawful, wrongful, and unconstitutional. They are requesting either the provision of the official cars or ₦15 million each in lieu of the vehicles.
The case, assigned to Justice Rakiya Haastrup, is scheduled for hearing on June 23, 2026.
