Akwa United, Warri Wolves to replay match

warri_wolvesIn a sharp contrast to the decision taken by the League Management Company (LMC), who earlier banished Akwa United Football Club and awarded the three points and three goals at stake to their opponent Warri Wolves, the Organising and Disciplinary Committee (O and D) of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has ordered the completion of the abandoned Glo Premier League Week 16 match involving Akwa United of Uyo and Warri Wolves.

Rising from its sitting on the issue in which the high point was the alleged assault on centre referee, Henry Ogunyanmodi, by supporters of Akwa United, the Barrister Leye Adepoju-led committee overruled the decision of the League Management Company (LMC) which had earlier awarded three points, three goals to Wolves.

Apart from ordering that the match be completed on Sunday behind closed doors in Uyo, the O and D also upturned the banishment of Akwa United to the Rojeny Stadium, Oba, Anambra state by the LMC and ordered the club to return to its home ground, the Uyo Township Stadium.

The Committee clamped a suspension on FIFA badge referee Henry Ogunyanmodi, from Ondo State, banning him for the rest of the season, just as same punishment was meted-out to the Match Commissioner for the game, Ijeoma Nwosu.

Another landmark decision taken by the committee was the order given for the replay of the botched Week 10 game between Wikki Tourists of Bauchi and Rangers International of Enugu.
