Agbaje: We can’t continue to leave Lagos in the hands of few selfish individuals

Jimi Agbaje

Jimi Agbaje, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, has called on voters to end the reign of impunity and hooliganism in Lagos State with their Permanent Voters Card, PVC in the coming March 2 election.

Agbaje, who spoke against the background of recent troubling developments in the camp of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), warned that Lagos State will not witness that great transformation it urgently needs if APC is allowed to remain in office.

“The trouble with Nigeria, according to the famous novelist, Chinua Achebe is leadership and I agree completely with him. So, we must quickly tackle this problem especially in Lagos State where we are in dire need of responsible and responsive leadership.

“This is so because no society develops when it gives power and responsibilities to questionable people. We can no longer afford to allow thugs and undesirable elements in strategic positions. These thugs should also not be allowed to be drivers of our vision during campaigns because they do not know what the issues are. For us as a government, our plan is to engage every idle hand and where necessary, rehabilitate those who need rehabilitation.

“Our government will not engage thugs who unfortunately, are also victims of poor leadership as hooligans at our rallies; this is not in our character. You saw them recently in their true colours when they disrupted the peace of our dear state.

“This is why we remain the only alternative. We are in this election without baggage because our records speak for us. We know Lagosians can vouch for us because they know the company we keep. We can never resort to violence over disagreement because we are responsible politicians who are in this contest to serve the people.

“I, therefore, urge the good people of Lagos State to be circumspect about the temperament of candidates as individuals and political parties. In this election, a lot is at stake, so we must join hands with peace loving people to rescue our state and bring it to where it rightly belongs”, he said.
