The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has praised a recent judgment by the Federal High Court, Abuja, which addressed the deadlines and regulations set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for political party primaries.
In a statement, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC National Publicity Secretary, described the ruling as a vindication of the party’s earlier objections to strict INEC timelines and procedural restrictions on party membership registration and primaries.
The court decision, according to the ADC, removes barriers that previously limited politicians from exploring alternative platforms to contest elections. The party said this development strengthens freedom of association and promotes a more inclusive political process.
“Previously, the restrictions appeared designed to deter members from leaving the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)” Abdullahi noted. “With the court ruling against these limitations, we anticipate increased political mobility and opportunities for leadership within alternative parties.”
The ADC emphasized that the judgment underscores the importance of constitutional adherence in electoral regulations and is expected to reshape strategies ahead of upcoming elections.
The party hailed the decision as a significant step toward ensuring fairness and transparency in Nigeria’s electoral framework, reinforcing the rights of politicians and party members nationwide.
