Governor Hyacinth Alia has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination in Benue State, emerging victorious in the party’s primary election held across the state.

The result was announced on Friday at the APC state secretariat in Makurdi  by Prof. Muhammad Isah, chairman of the primary election committee. Alia defeated fellow aspirants Jeffrey Kuranun and Terwase Orbunde, garnering 367,786 votes against Kuranun’s 2,923 and Orbunde’s 3,247.

Prof. Isah described the primary as smooth and transparent, praising party members for their large turnout and adherence to procedures.

Earlier, APC State Chairman Benjamin Omale commended the electorate and the election committee for conducting a fair and peaceful exercise.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Alia called for unity within the party, pledging to work closely with his former rivals. “The primaries have settled anxieties within our party. There is neither a victor nor a vanquished,” he said, urging all members to support the party’s vision for progress.

Alia highlighted ongoing projects under his administration, including road construction, healthcare improvements, educational initiatives, infrastructure development, and job creation. He also committed to recruiting additional teachers in the final year of his first term.

The governor’s nomination has been affirmed by APC leaders from all three senatorial districts in Benue, signaling broad support ahead of the general elections.

This victory positions Alia to lead the party into the upcoming governorship contest, emphasizing continuity, development, and inclusive governance across Benue State.
