A 39-year-old woman, Hajara Jibril, was arraigned at Dutse Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Tuesday, accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm on her neighbour.

Jibril, a resident of Gudna Village, faces a single count of causing grievous hurt but pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the prosecutor, Ogehenekaro Agbodo, the alleged incident occurred on June 3, 2026, when the complainant, Mr. David Onnkuro, returned home to find himself locked out of his residence. While he was disputing with his brother over access, Jibril allegedly intervened, shouting at him to stay away from her part of the apartment.

The prosecutor stated that Jibril then allegedly fetched a bowl of hot water from her apartment and poured it over Onnkuro’s face, causing serious injuries to his head and left eye. Agbodo added that the defendant reportedly showed no remorse during police questioning and failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for her actions.

The act is said to contravene Section 265 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Ibrahim Alkali granted Jibril bail of ₦500,000 with two sureties of like amount. The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide valid identification.

The case has been adjourned until July 2, 2026, for further hearing.
