The Nigeria Police Force, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that it received and confirmed allegations of kidney sales involving young people in Nyanya, Abuja.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, made the clarification in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to Adeh, the clarification became necessary following online publications alleging that residents in the Nyanya area of the FCT had sold their kidneys for financial reasons.
The reports also claimed that an agent operating in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was involved in purchasing kidneys from young people.
The police spokesperson said the FCT Command had neither received nor verified any report relating to such claims.
“The Police Command in the FCT wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature,” Adeh said.
She added that no official statement or communication had been released by the command confirming the allegations.
The police urged members of the public to ignore the unverified reports and avoid spreading information capable of creating unnecessary fear, panic or confusion among residents.
Adeh encouraged anyone with credible information concerning alleged human organ trafficking or any other security-related matter within the FCT to report promptly to security authorities.
