The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have clarified that candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions will pay a one-time fee of N4,000 for the verification of their O’Level results.

The clarification followed consultations between both examination bodies over the newly introduced verification process for West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

In a joint statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, JAMB and WAEC explained that candidates whose admissions are processed through JAMB will complete the verification exercise once.

Verification will be done through JAMB

According to the two organisations, candidates are expected to pay the N4,000 verification fee through the approved JAMB verification platform and not directly through their chosen tertiary institutions.

They explained that after successful verification, the result confirmation will be made available to the institution where the candidate is seeking admission.

The bodies stressed that candidates will not be required to pay another verification fee after completing the process.

“Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification,” the statement noted.

Institutions to use verified results

JAMB and WAEC said tertiary institutions would rely on the verified results provided through the system for admission screening and other academic administrative procedures.

WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant institutions.

The arrangement, according to both bodies, is designed to prevent candidates from repeating the same verification process with different institutions.

New system aimed at reducing admission challenges

The examination bodies said the initiative would reduce the financial burden and inconvenience associated with repeated verification requests.

They added that candidates would be able to complete the process remotely from their homes or any location with internet access.

JAMB and WAEC encouraged candidates to use the official verification service to authenticate their WASSCE O’Level results once and allow institutions to access the verified records when required.

They said the partnership reflects their commitment to improving the admission process, protecting academic records and reducing unnecessary expenses for candidates.
