The Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS) has expressed sadness over the death of its pioneer President, Mr Dotun Oladipo, describing his passing as a major loss to Nigeria’s media community.
Oladipo, who died on Tuesday in Lagos at the age of 56, was remembered by the cooperative as a visionary leader who contributed greatly to media collaboration, professional growth and industry development.
The late journalist reportedly passed away after suddenly falling ill at his office.
He was the Founder and Publisher of The Eagle Online and also served as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Ltd..
Oladipo was also a former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), where he led the organisation between 2017 and 2021. He later became an Emeritus President of the guild.
In a condolence statement issued on Thursday, IMPCMS Secretary, Mr Nkanu Egbe, described Oladipo as a dedicated media professional whose leadership helped shape the cooperative’s vision and operations.
Egbe said Oladipo’s impact would remain part of the organisation’s history, particularly his efforts toward building stronger relationships among media professionals.
According to him, the late journalist played a key role in establishing IMPCMS as a platform focused on cooperation, capacity building and investment opportunities for Nigerian media practitioners.
He noted that Oladipo’s journalism career covered almost three decades, during which he worked with several prominent Nigerian newspapers.
His professional journey included roles at publications such as Newswatch Magazine, The Punch, Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass and The Sun Nigeria.
Egbe recalled that Oladipo rose to become Politics Editor at The Punch before transitioning into digital publishing and launching The Eagle Online.
He described the late journalist as part of the generation of media professionals who helped drive the growth of online journalism in Nigeria.
IMPCMS extended condolences to Oladipo’s wife, children and other family members, as well as the management and staff of The Eagle Online, Premium Eagle Media Ltd., and colleagues across the Nigerian media industry.
The cooperative prayed for strength for the bereaved family and acknowledged Oladipo’s lasting contributions to journalism and media development in Nigeria.
