Two men, Samson Vincent and Edward Nathan, were on Tuesday brought before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing three truck batteries valued at N270, 000.

Vincent, 31 and Nathan, 29, both residents of Ungwan Sunday Television, Kaduna, are facing two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 28 at about 4.00 p.m. along Eastern Bypass, Kaduna.

“The defendants stole two batteries of Mack truck valued at the sum of N180,000 and cash of N53,000, valued at N323,000, property of one Daniel Williams,” Leo said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 287 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

The sections stipulate a five-year jail term for stealing and three years’ imprisonment for conspiracy.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

The surety is required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Kaduna State government.

He adjourned the case till June 18 for hearing.
