Igbo living in Lagos were told on Sunday to vote for the governorship candidate of All Progressives Progress (APC), Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, or else, they will die in the lagoon.
A livid Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, said he was not ready to beg them but if they repeat what they did on March 28 when they voted for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), President Goodluck Jonathan, then they should be ready for the consequences.
The governorship election holds on April 11 and it is believed the Igbo will vote for the PDP candidate, Jimi Agbaje.
Speaking at a meeting with Igbo leaders in the state, the first class monarch said: “On Saturday, if anyone of you goes against Ambode who I picked, that is your end. If it doesn’t happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it is not my father who gave birth to me.
“Jonathan is my son and I speak to him everyday. By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. This is an undivided chair. The palace belongs to the dead and those coming in the future. On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die inside this water.
“I’m not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi (Agbaje) is my blood relation and I told him that he can never be governor in Lagos for now. The future belongs to God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere, don’t do it here. If you do what I want, Lagos will continue to be prosperous for you. If you go against my wish, you will perish in the water”.
The monarch said anybody against Ambode does not wish the state well. “‎I am for the progress, growth and development of Lagos. Ambode is highly cerebral, he’s a symbol and he is going to deliver the message which I, the Oba of Lagos, have said. And he will govern the state for another eight years. He is going on a mission and God will give him the wisdom and knowledge to fulfil that mission. Almost a year ago, I declared that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos and it will not change. From time immemorial, the previous occupiers of this house will say what they wanted after consultation with other people. And this hasn’t changed and it will not change at this time.
To him, the present crisis Nigeria is facing was not caused by the Goodluck Jonathan administration but by another person he refused to name.
“If not for the appeal from Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) and my highly respected maternal father, the Awujale of Ijebu-Ode, all what is happening today is not the cause of the present government. The man who caused everything knows himself”.
In his response, the Eze-Ndigbo of Amuwo-Oriade, Dr. Gordian Dimojiaku, said Igbo in Lagos would support Ambode.
“The mistake of last Saturday was caused by everybody, not only the Igbo. It is not only the Igbo that were responsible for the votes. But we have learnt our lesson. Saturday’s election is going to be a different thing and Ambode is going to win. Everybody knows that when you fail the first time, you cannot afford to fail again. We are going to tell our people that Ezes from the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas are here and that we have sworn with the Oba that w‎e are going to make sure that Ambode wins next Saturday’s election.‎”

I find it very difficult to believe what I just read, a traditional ruler coercing people via threat to vote his preferred candidate this is high ridiculous, Igbos in Lagos vote your conscience and let the heavens fall, one thing the traditional ruler failed to understand is that the average Igbo man hates to be intimidated, this is democracy you win people by persuasion and not by intimidation.

This is no longer democracy we are practicing in Nigeria. Since the emergence of APC as a political party, we have gradually witness the return of intimidation and violence to Nigerian politics. I pray God helps Nigeria. There is no doubt that we are sitting on a keg of gun powder.

I laughed at all this shenanigans up here….:) . Why are my people so blind and gullible and swift to believe fiction without facts so fast that they become unnecessarily furious? Please return your swords into its sheath. Devil’s agents and divisive figures at work. Remember, Lagos recognises visitors and has always been rewarding her guests namely The Jagaban Tinubu himself and other commissioners who are non-indigenes. Recall too that Akiolu is good friend of the Lagos Eze and has been a national figure himself especially as police officer who had served across the length and breadth of our land. Embrace peace all and common sense. Be swift to hear and slow to react. Check the stories authenticity and abstain from sweeping sentimental conclusions. Thank u all my brovx

This is pure propaganda, we should be very careful wat we believe, is it possible for the oba to make such statement at the detriment of his candidate? Let’s take time out and think it over before believing anything this is just the work of detractors hell bent on destabilizing Lagos along ethnic line to their own benefit, the Igbo’s have always been an integral part of Lagos and that can’t change.

I find it difficult believing what I just read but if it is true, its a shame to the Oba. It surprise me that in this Democratic setting a traditional ruler will be intimidating citizens, rubbishing the dignity of the throne all in the name of votes.
All I know is that he can be the Oba but but he cannot compel people in making decision about there future. He should note that he’s not the owner of Lagos he’s only a custodian of traditions so, he should stop sounding like God.

This Oba of Lagos talks like king Harod in the bible. Why do you say, if Ndi Igbo doesn’t do what you say, you will make sure they die in the river.
Rilwan Akiolu , have you not heard that Ndi Igbo only listens to Jehova God Almighty , God of Ndi Igbo? Only Him do the fear? The Igbo people in Lagos will seek for God’s guide. Who ever the spirit of God put in there heart, Ndi Igbo will only vote without fear of any human being.
I you lift a finger against Ndi Igbo, you are lifting a finger against God, and Jehova is greater than you and your gods. Wish no evil against Ndi Igbo, and apologies for your threats.

Can we settle down for a bit and reason intelligently? Do you really think the Oba would make that statement knowing that it would turn people against him?

My people, don’t let them divide us. Don’t let this spiteful article by the opposition be the reason you give Lagos to the incompetent PDP. LET’S VOTE AMBODE FOR CONTINUITY.

How can an Oba abandon his throne for politics?
Mind my words: Agbaje must become the next Lagos governor for eight years.
If I May ask Oba this question: Since you sounded like God why were you afraid to mention the name of the person who polluted President Good luck administration????

I really don’t think the same oba who tactically told Jonathan, the incumbent president that the will of the people must be done at the presidential election would say this. This is a false story! And for the igbos who had been responding to the false story, please take it easy. It is only in Lagos we have commissioners that are not from Yoruba land. Amidst all the excesses of Tinubu,Lagos has thrived better than most states in the country especially without support from the centre. Jimi Agbaje though a good man, hasn’t shown that he could be trusted. If you pitch your tent with him, you may regret it. Vote Ambode! Lagos with support from the centre will be better without it. Let us think about the state and not about Tinubu. The hand of God is not too short to ‘catch’ Tinubu but lets’s not take Lagos back in a bit to get back at Tinubu.

Poor Ndiigbo! Which other ethnic nationality will the Oba threaten like he did to Ndiigbo except those who lost a war of self-determination? The Federal Government should call the Oba to order. At the moment, Jonathan remains the president of Nigeria. If the Oba gets away with this reckless abuse of authority who knows what he will do when APC takes over? I am surprised that Governor Fashola now understands the value of being on the winning side. For eight years at the helm of affairs in Lagos, he opposed the centre controlled by PDP. What is it that led to his conversion? Lagos is used to being in opposition to the centre. Let them vote for Jimmy Agbaje. It will be keeping with the tradition in the state.

We are one Nigeria, anywhere it start stay and defend ur self. Let me tell oba akiolu that ” he who lives in a glass house should not first throw a stone” because the end will be disastrous for him at end. No amount of threat or intimidation can change our mind. Oba akiolu do not try to test our will. If ur ancestors are calling u after

I am urging the Igbo’s in Lagos not to succumb to the intimidation by any ranting and confused Oba of Lagos. Pls be brave and courageous to take ur destiny in ur hands by voting for the candidate of ur choice. The Igbo’s are peace loving people and law abiding but we cannot be intimidated anywhere. Our God is always there to fight for us wen ever we call on him. As for the Oba, he should stop sounding as if the life of the Igbo’s in Lagos is in his hand because he is just making a mockery of his throne.

I WANT TO BELIEVE THIS IS NOT TRUE THE OBA DECLARED THESE THINGS!!! This is – IF IT IS TRUE – the most bizarre unwarranted thing that a man of this oba’s status should say to the Igbos in Lagos, but that goes to reveal what he is in essence !!! And it shocks more than it pains me, that the Igbo representatives by their questionable crass quality, did not have the courage, sensibility, feeling and intelligence to answer to this unmistakably outraging shameful treasonable threat to the life of all the Lagos- based Igbos congruently, rightly, even in most muted ways. Because,as it is evident,of the all-round poor quality of the leaders, both ways, though we are not loosing sight of the greater evil here!!! Igbos vote for who you choose all of you, I beseech you!!! The law enforcement agents and government at all levels must seriously take Oba Akiolu up and teach him and his kinds, what never to call for against a person of whichsoever race Nigerian or foreigner, not to talk of it being directed to the Igbo nation, in their millions in Lagos!!! I demand you all wade fastest into this case, if it be true.
Idiotic genocide-threatening, engendering, unleashing pronouncements like these must not ever come out of any person’s mouth without the person answering for it through and through as the Law is clear on these and diverse other breaches wheresoever they happen.
It is most questionable, how this man emerged a ‘king’ if he really said these things allegedly attributed to him. Or more precisely, that shows how he have been using unacceptable, untenable methodologies with the Yorubas and Igbos amongst others within and under his circle of influence for a long time, before now. It could not be the first time, if he really said these alleged terrible things they attribute to him.
Nigerians should unambiguously get it clear that, best, not just good leaders and nothing short or less at every level is what Nigeria and Nigeria must have.
Obviously,I will not take it that there are places where a person churning out outraging dirt like these,in today’s world, if truely he did in the first place, can be said to be the best or even good enough to be king, even if it be by hereditary lineage that kings evolve, for even at that, how come he was not taught and tutored well for the tasks ahead, the dos and donts?
More questions beg for answer. Igbos,Yorubas,Hausas and all ethnic groups in Nigeria, I challengingly urge you all to salvagingly vote for the best people of your choice per their quality, because that is what Nigeria and our world demand from you!!!

United we stand and divided we fall! Of course this can only be a propangada cooked up by the DROWNING PDP in Lagos State to fight for survival in a journey of no return that was designed by themselves. Such words CAN NOT come out of the royal sit. The question is, “Will the Oba who wants the growth and development of Lagos so much wish anything bad for the millions of Igbo investors in our land? Of what benefit will it be to the Oba and to Lagos as a State if the Igbos in Lagos perish in the water”? Nigerians please THINK! THINK! THINK! PDP should go to the moon and the four corners of the world to cook up as many deadly lies BUT they they are just going to fail because it’s a lost battle. Of course who can battle the will of God? CHANGE IS THE WILL OF GOD NOT OF MAN!
