Oba of Lagos to Igbo leaders: Vote for Ambode or perish inside Lagoon

Igbo living in Lagos were told on Sunday to vote for the governorship candidate of All Progressives Progress (APC), Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, or else, they will die in the lagoon.
A livid Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, said he was not ready to beg them but if they repeat what they did on March 28 when they voted for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), President Goodluck Jonathan, then they should be ready for the consequences.
The governorship election holds on April 11 and it is believed the Igbo will vote for the PDP candidate, Jimi Agbaje.
Speaking at a meeting with Igbo leaders in the state, the first class monarch said: “On Saturday, if anyone of you goes against Ambode who I picked, that is your end. If it doesn’t happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it is not my father who gave birth to me.
“Jonathan is my son and I speak to him everyday. By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. This is an undivided chair. The palace belongs to the dead and those coming in the future. On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die inside this water.
“I’m not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi (Agbaje) is my blood relation and I told him that he can never be governor in Lagos for now. The future belongs to God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere, don’t do it here. If you do what I want, Lagos will continue to be prosperous for you. If you go against my wish, you will perish in the water”.
The monarch said anybody against Ambode does not wish the state well. “‎I am for the progress, growth and development of Lagos. Ambode is highly cerebral, he’s a symbol and he is going to deliver the message which I, the Oba of Lagos, have said. And he will govern the state for another eight years. He is going on a mission and God will give him the wisdom and knowledge to fulfil that mission. Almost a year ago, I declared that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos and it will not change. From time immemorial, the previous occupiers of this house will say what they wanted after consultation with other people. And this hasn’t changed and it will not change at this time.
To him, the present crisis Nigeria is facing was not caused by the Goodluck Jonathan administration but by another person he refused to name.
“If not for the appeal from Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) and my highly respected maternal father, the Awujale of Ijebu-Ode, all what is happening today is not the cause of the present government. The man who caused everything knows himself”.
In his response, the Eze-Ndigbo of Amuwo-Oriade, Dr. Gordian Dimojiaku, said Igbo in Lagos would support Ambode.
“The mistake of last Saturday was caused by everybody, not only the Igbo. It is not only the Igbo that were responsible for the votes. But we have learnt our lesson. Saturday’s election is going to be a different thing and Ambode is going to win. Everybody knows that when you fail the first time, you cannot afford to fail again. We are going to tell our people that Ezes from the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas are here and that we have sworn with the Oba that w‎e are going to make sure that Ambode wins next Saturday’s election.‎”

  1. Igbos in Lagos should vote for Agbaje. Let heavens fall. Yoruba/Oba should not take Igbos for granted. after developing your state you have the heart to tell us what to do and how to do it. No way. Igbos should be wise this time and tell the oba what an average Igbo man can do.

  2. I wish this is a satirical story. But if the Oba actually said this, let him go to hell and burn to ashes. Nonsence! Does this man think we’re in the 10th century?

  3. Just as some have the right to be fooled, I choose not to be. Please let
me know when there is an audio/video evidence. Thank you

  4. Poor Ndiigbo! Which other ethnic nationality will the Oba threaten like he did to Ndiigbo except those who lost a war of self-determination? The Federal Government should call the Oba to order. At the moment, Jonathan remains the president of Nigeria. If the Oba gets away with this reckless abuse of authority who knows what he will do when APC takes over? I am surprised that Governor Fashola now understands the value of being on the winning side. For eight years at the helm of affairs in Lagos, he opposed the centre controlled by PDP. What is it that led to his conversion? Lagos is used to being in opposition to the centre. Let them vote for Jimmy Agbaje. It will be keeping with the tradition in the state.

  5. As a traditional leader, this statement from oba akiolu is unacceptable, I a member of igwe in council urge all Igbo in Lagos state to refute the statement and vote enmass for candidate of ur choice, don’t be intimidated by a ranting cow comment. We are one Nigeria, anywhere it start stay and defend ur self. Let me tell oba akiolu that ” he who lives in a glass house should not first throw a stone” because the end will be disastrous for him at end. No amount of threat or intimidation can change our mind. Oba akiolu do not try to test our will. If ur ancestors are calling u after

seven days you better tell us.

    • Well said sir!! I am so disappointed that the so called Eze-Ndigbo of Amuwo-Oriade is such a coward by not calling a spade a spade. and more disappointed i am on the so called Oba for making such idiotic and arrogant threat. and they are preaching One-Nigeria.

  6. I would have doubted this i heard the audio record of the Oba’s threath speech from Nigeria info FM. I am urging the Igbo’s in Lagos not to succumb to the intimidation by any ranting and confused Oba of Lagos. Pls be brave and courageous to take ur destiny in ur hands by voting for the candidate of ur choice. The Igbo’s are peace loving people and law abiding but we cannot be intimidated anywhere. Our God is always there to fight for us wen ever we call on him. As for the Oba, he should stop sounding as if the life of the Igbo’s in Lagos is in his hand because he is just making a mockery of his throne.

  7. This is all propaganda. A lie from the pit of hell. We are one Nigeria and they keep making us vote along ethnic and religious lines

  8. They know the powers the Igbos have to swing the votes in the gubernatorial elections. My people, wake up! Do not let them use us as their tools. Lagos has been a home and source of livelihood to us. Even if the Oba said this, he is not the voice of the whole Yoruba race. I choose Ambode.

  9. PDP has lost at the top, now they’re desperate to take over Lagos. All these lies and propaganda pitting Nugerians against themselves. My Igbo people, please wake up and stop believing these jokers. Nonsense

  10. I WANT TO BELIEVE THIS IS NOT TRUE THE OBA DECLARED THESE THINGS!!! This is – IF IT IS TRUE – the most bizarre unwarranted thing that a man of this oba’s status should say to the Igbos in Lagos, but that goes to reveal what he is in essence !!! And it shocks more than it pains me, that the Igbo representatives by their questionable crass quality, did not have the courage, sensibility, feeling and intelligence to answer to this unmistakably outraging shameful treasonable threat to the life of all the Lagos- based Igbos congruently, rightly, even in most muted ways. Because,as it is evident,of the all-round poor quality of the leaders, both ways, though we are not loosing sight of the greater evil here!!! Igbos vote for who you choose all of you, I beseech you!!! The law enforcement agents and government at all levels must seriously take Oba Akiolu up and teach him and his kinds, what never to call for against a person of whichsoever race Nigerian or foreigner, not to talk of it being directed to the Igbo nation, in their millions in Lagos!!! I demand you all wade fastest into this case, if it be true.
Idiotic genocide-threatening, engendering, unleashing pronouncements like these must not ever come out of any person’s mouth without the person answering for it through and through as the Law is clear on these and diverse other breaches wheresoever they happen.
It is most questionable, how this man emerged a ‘king’ if he really said these things allegedly attributed to him. Or more precisely, that shows how he have been using unacceptable, untenable methodologies with the Yorubas and Igbos amongst others within and under his circle of influence for a long time, before now. It could not be the first time, if he really said these alleged terrible things they attribute to him.
Nigerians should unambiguously get it clear that, best, not just good leaders and nothing short or less at every level is what Nigeria and Nigeria must have.
Obviously,I will not take it that there are places where a person churning out outraging dirt like these,in today’s world, if truely he did in the first place, can be said to be the best or even good enough to be king, even if it be by hereditary lineage that kings evolve, for even at that, how come he was not taught and tutored well for the tasks ahead, the dos and donts?
More questions beg for answer. Igbos,Yorubas,Hausas and all ethnic groups in Nigeria, I challengingly urge you all to salvagingly vote for the best people of your choice per their quality, because that is what Nigeria and our world demand from you!!!

  11. United we stand and divided we fall! Of course this can only be a propangada cooked up by the DROWNING PDP in Lagos State to fight for survival in a journey of no return that was designed by themselves. Such words CAN NOT come out of the royal sit. The question is, “Will the Oba who wants the growth and development of Lagos so much wish anything bad for the millions of Igbo investors in our land? Of what benefit will it be to the Oba and to Lagos as a State if the Igbos in Lagos perish in the water”? Nigerians please THINK! THINK! THINK! PDP should go to the moon and the four corners of the world to cook up as many deadly lies BUT they they are just going to fail because it’s a lost battle. Of course who can battle the will of God? CHANGE IS THE WILL OF GOD NOT OF MAN!
