APC rejects Adamawa governorship supplementary election date

Ballot Box

Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State did not participate in the local government election conducted in the 14 Local Government Areas of the North-West state on Saturday.
The three senators and seven House of Representatives members from the state were also conspicuously absent at the election.
The state`s Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC) did not announce the number of political parties expected to field candidates for the polls.
Only the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) fielded candidates.
On Friday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a statement by the state chairman, Alhaji Hassan Nasiha, in Gusau, the state capital, declared that the party would boycott the election because of “lack of transparency”.
The party also hinged its decision to boycott the polls on the fact that it is challenging Yari’s victory in the April 11, 2015 governorship election at the Supreme Court.
“Participating in the elections will amount to giving recognition to the leadership of the incumbent government in the state,’’ Nasiha said.
