Youth Killing Sparks Curfew as Andoni Council Cracks Down on Vigilante Groups

Authorities in Andoni Local Government Area have ordered the immediate suspension of all local vigilante activities in Ikuru Town following the alleged killing of a young resident.

The directive was issued on Friday by Lucky Otuo, who also announced a dusk-to-dawn curfew aimed at restoring calm and preventing further violence.

According to official reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday and is believed to be linked to tensions between a community-based security outfit and local youths.

Local authorities say the decision to halt vigilante operations is part of broader efforts to protect lives and property amid growing security concerns in the area.

Reacting to the development, Utono Obolo Worldwide strongly condemned the killing, describing it as tragic and avoidable.

In a statement released by its Administrator-General, Romsan Dressman, the group called on security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further escalation.

Dressman warned that unresolved disputes and internal conflicts within communities have continued to fuel instability across Andoni.

He urged all stakeholders to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence, stressing that continued violence would only worsen the already fragile security situation.

The organisation also extended condolences to the victim’s family and others affected by the incident, while reiterating the need for urgent intervention.

Security agencies are yet to issue a detailed statement on the matter, but residents remain on edge as authorities work to restore order.
