World War II bomb found near Dortmund Stadium

A piece of unexploded ordinance, left over from World War II, was found in a parking area near Borussia Dortmund’s Stadium, forcing the closing of the building and shutting down some of the club’s operations on Thursday.
According to a city official, the bomb was found when aerial photographs of the stadium site were being examined. The British bomb was one of several million dropped by the Allies during heavy bombing of the city of Dortmund in the war.
Finding pieces that didn’t explode as intended is apparently fairly common in Germany, though still rather scary. Fortunately, no one was injured and authorities were able to safely defuse the bomb.
With everyone safe and the bomb being safely disposed of, there will no doubt be a flood of jokes involving the bomb and BVB’s up and down season.
Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has been forced to relocate a news conference after an unexploded bomb was found near Signal Iduna Park.
The explosive – reported to be a relic from the Second World War – is so close to the stadium that the entirety of the ground falls within an exclusion zone that has a 250-metre radius.
