Mr Cletus Obun, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, has declared that infighting and lack of trust among party members contributed to the party’s loss in the governorship election.

Obun said on Tuesday that the loss of APC did not come to him as a surprise.

“APC prepared itself to lose the election right from the primaries. There was erosion of trust among members of the party up to factionalisation that manifested in the result we saw.

“It is not true that Cross Riverians do not like APC; it is also not true that Cross Riverians do not want APC, but what did one expect when APC was parading double candidates even on the eve of the election?

“There was Court Order on the stay of execution and no stay of execution on the eve of the election, for a party that wants to unseat an incumbent.

“That would have been the miracle of the century. So, to me, it was not a surprise at all, ‘’ he said.

Obun, who was also an aspirant to the House of Representatives lamented that the founding members of APC in the state had been relegated `and this had left the party in the hands of political migrants’.

It would be recalled that prior to the election the APC was enmeshed in inter-party crisis over the control of its state executive and who was the authentic candidate of the party.
