Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State, on Monday, urged traditional rulers and the electorate to rise above ethnic politics in casting their votes in the March 28 and April 11 general elections.
Amaechi made the call in Obonoma, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of the state at a door-to-door Ward campaign organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said that the choice of Dr Dakuku Peterside as the governorship candidate of the party was a democratic consciousness to plant equity in power sharing.
“As an Ikwerre son, I cannot support another Ikwerre son to be governor because that will be unjust and unfair, and could lead to ethnic dominance,” he said.
Amaechi said that APC represented equity and fairness in the distribution of power and development and urged the people to vote for the party.
In his speech, Peterside said that the party could be trusted to provide security for the people.
He said that if elected, his administration would partner leaders of the area to provide empowerment for women and youths.
Peterside stated that the upcoming elections were about taking decision for the future of Nigeria and the state.
“As you go from ward-to-ward and door-to-door to campaign, stay away from violence, avoid troublemakers so that our opponents will not have room to cause problem,” he said.
He urged the people to vote for all APC candidates in all elections in the state ‘’so as to have a secure and bright future’’.
