Daniel

The ongoing debate surrounding Senator Gbenga Daniel’s continued presence in the Senate frequently revolves around his transition from a two-term executive governor to a highly active legislator. Proponents often cite his legislative productivity and regional advocacy as primary reasons for his potential return.
Here is a breakdown of the key arguments for why he should reclaim his Senate seat:
1. Legislative Productivity and Bills
In a relatively short period during the 10th Senate, Daniel has been recognized for sponsoring a substantial number of bills. Supporters argue that his return would guarantee the completion and implementation of these crucial pieces of legislation:
• South West Development Commission Bill: One of his most notable achievements, aimed at addressing regional infrastructure and economic growth.
• Terminal Illness Trust Fund Bill: A social welfare initiative designed to support Nigerians facing life-threatening medical conditions.
• Aviation and Education: He has championed the upgrade of technical colleges to specialized institutions, such as the Federal College of Aviation Technology, Ilara Remo.
2. Regional Advocacy and “Redefining Representation”
Representing Ogun East, Daniel has utilized his “Ijebu instinct” for value and his previous executive experience to secure federal attention for his district.
• Infrastructure: His motions have frequently addressed local emergencies, such as flooding and the rehabilitation of critical roads in the Ogun East corridor.
• Oversight Experience: As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, he brings executive-level oversight to national security and maritime issues, a role where experience is a major asset.
3. Bridge Between Generations and Eras
Daniel is often regarded as a “political bridge.” Having served as a kitchen cabinet member for Chief Obafemi Awolowo and as a two-term governor (2003–2011), he possesses a deep institutional memory that many feel is necessary for stable governance in the National Assembly.
