Time tested drummer, Steve Black Aiwansosa, whose newly released album is making waves in all musical platforms on the Internet, has stated again that he is not out to compete with the Davidos, the Burna Boys and others but rather he says, “I am bringing in my experience to support the great job the young ones are doing right now. I want to give mature and meaningful lyrics to those in search of it not the songs that preach sex, violence, alcohol, drugs and what have you that is all over the place now” .
Known simply in the entertainment circle as Steve Black, his new album, Funky Lagos, was released weeks ago and is available on Spotify and other musical platforms.
A seven tracks album featuring songs like “Tomorrow, Asiko laye, Do it now, Jealousy” , among others was released by his Dudu Music label and recorded in his personal studio.

The album, which he also produced with the support of seasoned session men in Nigeria, he said, is his fourth complete album aside numerous singles to his credit since 1979 when he dropped his first album titled Village Boogie.
Black who made his name in the ’70s as a drummer for Kris Okotie, Eric Kool, Oby Onyeoha and other happening acts then, said that he is not too old to soca or groove now.
According to him, “the time is changing and it waits for no one and I am moving with time. I am grooving with it.”
He, however, bemoans the absence of great musical concerts as was organised in the 70s, 80s, 90s till early 2000s by corporate Nigerians and wished those days can come again.
” I’m still strong to feature in live concerts but where are they now? The economy has dealt with them. God has blessed me with good health but lack of concerts have slowed me down so I decided to return to recording,” he said.
On how he intends to face the rigours of marketing the album, Black has this to say, “thank God for technology. I have embraced it fully. My works, both the new and the old, are all on Spotify and all other streaming platforms. Just go there download the music play and pay. That is all. I follow the trend. People have been asking if I am not too old to go to the studio and I keep telling them no; that there is no end to creativity. I will continue to perform or release album till I die”.
