Why Ekiti Football Club Board was dissolved, by Fayose’s aide

Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Information, Youth and Sports, Hon. Lanre Ogunsuyi, has said that the dissolution of the Board of the state-owned Fountain Football Club was due to the inactivity of the Board.
To him, the action has no political connotation.
Speaking during a familiarisation visit to the State Sports Council, following the restructuring of government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state which led to the merger of the Youth and Sports
departments with the Ministry of Information, Ogunsuyi assured the management, footballers and fans of the club of the resolve of the Ayodele Fayose-led administration to resuscitate and move the outfit out of its comatose state as part of efforts to develop the sports sector in the state.
According to him, the present administration is in a
hurry to move the state forward and would not tolerate idleness, adding that all sectors are expected to be up and doing towards contributing to the overall development of the state.
Reiterating the determination of the administration to sports as a tool to engage youths positively, the governor’s aide said that government has decided to embark on aggressive talent hunt to discover potential stars that would take the state to greater heights, assuring that in spite of dwindling resources accruing to the state, government would ensure adequate funding of sports.
He, therefore, charged sports administrators to look inwards and encourage talented indigenes of the state to put the state back in its pride of place, emphasising the need for youths to also take advantage of government’s gesture to develop interest in games and sports to brighten their horizon.
Ogunsuyi emphasized that in line with government’s resolve to use sport as a veritable means of attracting investment to the state, the management of the team should be alive to their responsibilities of making positive and significant impact in the scheme of things nationally and eventually internationally.
He added that government would soon come up with a policy statement on the use of Oluyemi Kayode Stadium which he hoped would be used for only sporting activities while other activities would be carried out in other sites across the state that do not have specialised facilities that could get damaged.
He appealed to sport administrators in the state to show more
commitment to justify the resources government would henceforth commit to the sector.
The governor’s aide urged them to run a football club that is
result-oriented and in line with the aims and objectives of
government, the major financier of the club.
The Special Assistant urged them to be loyal to the government of the day to ensure success and move the state forward, adding that it is essential for them to think of what they can do to better the lots of Ekiti people through sports.
In his remarks, the General Manager of the Ekiti State Sports Council, Mr Olukayode Adewumi, highlighted the various challenges facing the council to include transportation and training equipment, among others.
Adewumi appealed to government and sports enthusiasts to come to the aid of sports in the state.
The meeting also had in attendance, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Kola Ajumobi.
