Electoral violence: Amosun talks tough

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has warned that any politician or group of people, irrespective of the political affiliation, caught precipitating trouble or violence in the state risk prosecution.
Amosun gave the warning at Ikenne, Ikenne Local Government Area, during his governorship re-election campaign, saying that anyone caught participating in any act of violence would, henceforth, be arrested, detained and not allowed to participate in the forthcoming elections.
The warning, according to him, was sequel to information that some opposition party members, last Friday in Sagamu, were reportedly shooting indiscriminately, leaving many residents restive and traumatised.
“The era of violence in politicking has gone with the previous administration”, he said, stating that his administration would not condone any act of violence whatsoever in any part of the state.
“I assure you that anyone or group found making trouble anywhere in the state, irrespective of the party, political or social class, would be detained and prosecuted according to law,” the governor said.
Amosun, however, assured that his administration would not renege on its developmental programmes, adding that he would continue to execute more road projects across the state.
He promised that the Sagamu-Ikenne road would be completed after his re-election.
