West Brom are hoping to have Victor Anichebe back in contention to feature in Saturday’s Premier League visit of Southampton.
The 26-year-old Nigeria international striker has been absent since the 2-2 draw at Burnley on February 8 when he limped out of the action because of a groin injury. However, Anichebe has been working hard in training this week and boss Tony Pulis could be set to pitch him back into the squad for the game against the Saints at the Hawthorns.
It is likely that he will start on the substitutes’ bench with the in-form Brown Ideye and Saido Berahino continuing in the attacking roles. But having Anichebe back will be a boost to the side given that they only have had those two senior strikers fit and available for the past three weeks.
Pulis has been looking to bring in an out-of-contract forward who he could sign in an emergency, but so far there has not been any developments.
