WaterAid Nigeria with funding support from PepsiCo Foundation and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints held a Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) assets inventory validation exercise in Ikorodu North LCDA.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise on Friday saw the gathering of representatives of Community Development Associations (CDAs), Water Consumer Associations (WCAs), Toilet Management Committees(TMCs), Water Sanitation Hygiene Committees (WASHCOM) within Ikorodu North LCDA.

Also, state partners including the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Ikorodu North LCDA and other relevant stakeholders attended the exercise.

NAN reports that the objective of the meeting was to validate the data collected during the Asset inventory conducted in Ikorodu LCDA in September 2023.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, Builder Adebisi Banjo, thanked WaterAid for the interventions in the LCDA.

Represented by the Executive Secretary to the LCDA, Mr Niyi Odugbesi, the chairman expressed the belief that the validation exercise would achieve its goal.

Also speaking on WaterAid projects in Lagos, Grace Uwadiale, Sanitation and Hygiene Consultant, stated that WaterAid seeks to ensure that everyone everywhere has access to safe and clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.

This would reduce the spread of WASH-related diseases and improve health outcomes in Lagos state.

Uwadiale noted that WaterAid, with the funding support from the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints and PepsiCo Foundation, has been intervening in various communities in the LCDA to improve access to decent toilet facilities, clean water and good hygiene

In his remarks, the CDC Chairman for Ikorodu North LCDA, Prince Adeniran Ogunbanwo, said that the validation exercise was important to get the accurate statistics of WASH facilities within the LCDA.

Ogunbanwo said that the data gotten from the exercise would serve as a working tool for any partner that would be ready to intervene within the communities.

He called on the communities where development partners had earlier intervened with WASH improvement facilities to own it to make sure that they were used sustainably.

NAN reports that the outcome of the validation meeting would be used to develop the local government investment plan.
