Blessing Etim, the captain of the Nigeria women cricket team, said their batting did not go well in the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 Women’s World Cup Global Qualification in Uganda.
Etim said on Friday in Abuja they had identified their mistake in the competition.
Nigeria lost their last group B match against hosts Ugandaby six wickets on Thursday .
She said the team did well in all their games and that they were hopeful to win the competition.
“We came into this game to win but it did not go as we planned, we didn’t just bat through and that was our mistake.
“We have learnt our lessons we will go back to the drawing board to see what we can do to improve on our games.
“There is no need to panic, our batting didn’t go well as we planned because of one error or the other from the batters and that is what we need to work on,”she said
According to her, the team worked hard to have an outstanding performance in Ghana in African Games in 2024.
She said the team will go back to the drawing board and correct all their errors ahead of African Games.
“We are supposed to be there (Ghana) and not just participating but participating well as a team, ”she said
Nigeria lost their last group B match against hosts Uganda six wickets on Wednesday .
She thanked the federation for giving the best player award.
“I was surprised to see the Federation giving award to the most valuable player of the match apart from the general award given by ICC.
“It motivates the players even when we lost but each player will stand out to win that award so it is good, she said.
The qualifiers featured eight teams divided into two groups.
Group A has Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Botswana and Kenya. Nigeria is in Group B, alongside Rwanda, Namibia and hosts Uganda.
The finalists in Division one will progress to the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier.
ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier which started on Dec. 9 is expected to end Dec.17 at Entebbe Cricket Oval in Uganda.
