The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) will  on December 1, 2018 confer on  11,681 graduates  various degrees , including 400 Doctorate degrees during the institution ‘s 48th convocation.
 Vice -Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba, made this known to newsmen  on Monday at a pre-convocation press briefing held at the University of Nigeria,  Enugu campus.
      
He said: “I am glad to announce to you that the University will release a total of 11,681 graduates at the convocation, 9,702 of them will be conferred with 1st degrees, Diploma and certificate.
“1,979 graduates who will receive postgraduate Diplomas, Masters Degree and Doctor of Philosophy Degree as a clear evidence to prioritise quality Research and academic excellence in our University.
“Let me place on record that our University will award over 400 Ph. D degrees at the 48th convocation. This is an unprecedented record in the number of Ph. D degrees ever awarded by a university in a single convocation”,  
      According to him,the breakdown is as follows, 173 First Class,  3,725 Second Class(upper division), 4,123 Second Class (lower division), 1,306 3rd class, 76 Pass, 253 Unclassified and 46 Diploma graduates.
        Others include  979 post graduates (Diplomas and Master Degrees ) and over 400 Doctor of Philosophy,  Ph.D
  He said  that three eminent Nigerians who had contributed to the development of the society would be awarded honorary Doctorate Degrees.
“As our tradition demands, the university will confer Honorary Doctorate Degree on some eminent Nigerians, including Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe, MD/CEO Access Bank, Dr (Sir) Daniel Nwanneka Chukwudozie, MD Dozzy Group and Reginald Chika Stanley”.

      The vice-chancellor highlighted his achievements since five years of his administration which include construction of  UNESCO category 11 Biotechnology building at Nsukka campus, Faculty of Social Science building, Nsukka Campus, Faculty of Pharmacy building, Nsukka Campus, NLNG Engineering Laboratory building, Nsukka Campus, renovation of  Lady Ibiam Hostel, Enugu Campus, Arthur Mbanefo ICAN Lecture Theatre, Enugu Campus, The University Main Gate, Enugu Campus, newly built hostel at the college of Medicine, Ituku Ozalla.
     Professor Ozumba went further to say that the University would confer the title of Professor Emeritus on Prof Uche Azikiwe and 10 other renowned professors of the University who had served the institution meritoriously and are still making valuable contributions to education.
