The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a teenage boy whose body was discovered in a swimming pool at the University of Ibadan
The development was confirmed in a statement issued in Ibadan by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka.
According to the police, the body was first spotted floating in the pool in the early hours of Thursday. Information made available by the university’s Chief Security Officer indicated that the victim was believed to be between 14 and 15 years old.
Police detectives were said to have visited the scene shortly after the report was received and began preliminary inquiries into the incident.
Initial findings, according to the command, showed that the deceased had blood coming from the mouth and nose, while minor bruises were observed around the nose area.
Investigators also recovered items believed to belong to the teenager, including a shirt and a pair of shoes, near the swimming pool.
Blood stains were reportedly noticed within the pavilion area close to the scene, raising further suspicion about the circumstances surrounding the death.
The body was later taken to General Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan, where medical personnel confirmed the victim dead on arrival. It has since been deposited at the mortuary.
Police said the case is being handled as a suspected murder while a full investigation continues to determine exactly what happened.
The command appealed to residents and the general public to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified claims as detectives work to uncover the facts.
The incident has drawn attention in Ibadan and across Oyo State, with authorities expected to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
