A 20-year-old undergraduate of the University of Lagos has testified before a Lagos High Court in Ikeja, detailing allegations of sexual assault against a lecturer, Obinna Ojogbo.
The student, whose identity is being withheld for legal and ethical reasons, gave her account during cross-examination on Monday.
Ojogbo is currently on trial following charges filed by the Lagos State Government.
The case involves two counts related to alleged sexual offences under the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which carry severe penalties if proven.
While responding to questions in court, the witness said the incident allegedly occurred in the lecturer’s office, which she described as an enclosed underground space without windows or administrative presence.
She stated that the lecturer physically restrained her during the encounter.
However, she acknowledged that she did not shout or seek help at the time.
The student told the court that she knew the defendant in his capacity as a lecturer and examination invigilator.
She said the date of the alleged incident was the first time he directly approached her, despite other students being present earlier in the examination hall.
Defence counsel Ademola Bello attempted to introduce a photograph said to depict the lecturer’s office.
However, the prosecution, led by Owolabi Azeez, objected to its admissibility under the Evidence Act.
The court declined to admit the document.
The witness told the court that she reported the incident to a relative and later underwent medical examination.
She confirmed that the results of the examination were submitted to the police as part of the investigation.
Presiding judge Oyindamola Ogala adjourned the matter until May 11 for continuation of cross-examination.
