The University of Jos (UNIJOS)has postponed scheduled examinations following a violent attack in Angwan Rukuba, a community near the campus.
In an official statement, the university’s Deputy Registrar for Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu said the decision was taken to prioritise the safety of students and staff.
According to the statement, examinations earlier planned for Monday and Tuesday have been rescheduled as part of broader precautionary measures.
The university also announced the temporary suspension of academic activities and closure of student hostels due to heightened security concerns.
Madugu explained that the move followed a Sunday night attack by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba, which has created tension in surrounding areas, including the university environment.
He advised students and staff to remain vigilant and limit unnecessary movements while the situation is being monitored.
The university urged members of its community to report any suspicious activity or security threats to its internal security unit through official emergency contacts.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area in response to the incident.
The development was confirmed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joyce Ramnap, in a statement issued in Jos.
Preliminary reports indicate that unidentified gunmen riding motorcycles attacked youths in the area, resulting in multiple casualties, although the exact number of victims has not been officially confirmed.
Authorities say security agencies are working to restore calm and investigate the attack.
